"Low, Middle, High Approach"

The Low-Middle-High approach helps you learn your way around your instrument early on. Identifying notes as the fingering numbers plus low, middle, or high at first gives you an idea of where you are on the horn. You then have a reference to correct yourself if you get off: "Oh, I'm on 1 low and I'm supposed to be on 1 middle." Note names have no real reference until you've already learned your way around.

Practice the Low-Middle-High Warm-up each day until you begin to learn where low, middle, and high are and can find them on demand. Now begin working to hold the notes steady and smooth for 4 counts to build your control. Breathe as often as needed to keep the sound full. As your tone grows, you can begin to slur the warm-up to develop your lip slur skill.
